Mississippi
State Catholic
Student
Association serves the collegiate Catholic community in and around
Starkville. You are automatically a member if you are a Catholic
student attending State. For more information call the campus minister,

Q: How do I join the Catholic
Student
Association (CSA)?
A: Good question. Answer: you don't have to. If
you are
a Catholic student, whether you've declared it or not to the
university, and you attend Mississippi State, you're in. No
complicated initiations, no questions or background checks, and most
importantly, no fees. If you're not Catholic, you're more than
welcomed; just look around the website to see what our next event is
and come. We hope to see you soon.
Q: How often does the CSA meet?
A: Besides Sunday Masses (9:00 AM, 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM) the CSA
provides
numerous activities. On Tuesdays,
there is Tuesday Night Dinner, with a monthly speaker. (Check the
TND
page.) Thursdays
include choir practice at 7:00 PM. And
these are just the weekly
happenings. Quite often there are volunteer opportunities,
retreats, mission trips and just general gatherings to worship, eat and
have
fun. All you need to know can be found by glancing through the
Website.
Q: Is Tuesday Night Dinner (TND)
really $2.00?
A: Funny you should ask because, yeah, it really is. Tax is
even
included, even though there isn't any tax. Most things that are
too good to be true usually are, except here. Remember $2.00
dinner is Tuesdays at six in the Parish Hall.
Q: Is TND dessert always really swank?
A: Obviously, you've never met Fran. When other people say
swank
they mean nice. When we at the CSA say swank, we mean your taste
buds will be doing summersaults in your mouth. COME TO TND.
Q: What else do you guys do besides Sunday Mass and TND?
A: We have numerous small groups that meet throughout the
week. Women's Bible Study meets
on Wednesdays at 6:00. Ask Fr. John with dinner provided happens
at 6:00 PM on Thursdays, and you can then join choir at 7:00 PM on
Thursdays. For the most

Q: What is 2 can Tuesday?
A: We here at St. Joe's are blessed with the St. Vincent de Paul
Society,
the church's food pantry. If you bring two cans for the food
pantry on the first Tuesday of every month, you get to eat TND
free. Can it get any better than that? Answer: No.
Q: What is Catholic Cash? And how do I get it?
A: Catholic Cash is our really catchy way to get you to come back
because
once you get it you have to spend it with us. Basically with the
CSA, Catholic Cash is as good as real money. Spend it on dinner,
pizza, and if you're a real spendthrift, spend it on retreats and
mission trips. The best way to get it is by helping clean up
after a CSA event (i.e. TND).
Q: Who do I see to be a Eucharistic Minister, Alter Server, usher
or
reader?
A: We are always looking for Eucharistic Ministers, Alter
Servers, ushers
and readers. Just because we don't proactively announce it
doesn't mean we don't need you (Yes, you.) to come and serve.
There are a couple of people you can get with, but the woman upstairs,
Fran, would be your best bet. Give her a call at (662) 323-2257.
Q: Which is the parish hall and which is the parish center?
A: The Hall is the building furthest from the road, the one you
can't
really see from the road. The church is the big building with all
the pews in it. The Center is the older looking building on the
west side of the Church property. If you're still confused, walk
inside, ask and someone will tell you. We don't bite, I promise.
Q: How often is there pizza after Mass?
A: We have pizza after the third
5:30 Mass of the month. It's in the Parish Hall and is only $2.00.
Q: What are the Mass times at St. Joe's?
A: There are three Masses on Sunday, 9:00 AM, 11:30 AM and 5:30
PM (CSA Mass). On Tuesda, Mass is at 5:30 PM.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Mass is held at 7:00 AM. On
Monday,
there
is no Mass. On Saturday, Fr. John travels to St. Joe's Mission
Parish, Corpus Cristi, in Macon, MS for Mass at 5:30 PM. Masses
for Holy Days of Obligation are usually 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM.
Q: I'm not Catholic, how do I become one?
A: Changing denominations, or religions, is no small
matter. We
offer classes beginning in the Fall. If you are interested in
becoming Catholic give Fr. John or Fran a call at (662) 323-2257.
